Last night, in the spirit of being brave, I let rip when creating two monoprints in the pre-Foundation portfolio class I'm taking at Kingston University, created using a round button as a drawing implement. Tonight, I've played with colour using digital photography which has turned them into something else again. I'm excited to be creating art, having held back for a long time. I'm looking forward to the journey. I don't think I have this right yet. I think I need to get better photographs and may play with the imagery a lot more before it's right. But in the meantime, it is interesting to make the parallel between writing and making art: that you don't have to always 'get it right', you have to 'get it down'. I have quite a challenge ahead of me if I am to put together a portfolio from nothing by the beginning of January. The blank sheet of paper is more daunting than ever, but also very enticing. Most of all I was pleased with the freedom of my work here, that I was able to move away from perfectionism and towards mark-making and experimentation. Still, I don't think I would have believed just a week ago that I'd be able to produce this kind of image. Do keep sharing the brave acts here...

These are great, Jacqui. Really free. It's a wonderful thing getting your hands covered in ink and paint and it shows here that you were having a good time!
